Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/4/2014
Cool Miracle on Ice-related offering here, a Koho game-used stick presented at the time by 1980 U.S. forward Phil Verchota to a New York State trooper who worked the '80 Olympics in Lake Placid, although we have no evidence showing Verchota using Kohos during these Games. With original tape jobs on the blade and knob (blade tape has some loose strands and some rows missing), this gamer shows light marks, has all 5 accent stripes in place, and has "Werchota" (sp) stamped on the upper shaft along with a handwritten "USA" along side. Nice wood gamer, although possibly not used in '80 Olympics game action, and comes with an LOA from the state trooper's nephew.
Verchota, drafted by the Minnesota North Stars in 1976, notched 3 goals and added 2 assists in his 6 games played at the '80 Olympics, and would also suit up for the U.S. in the 1984 Games in Sarajevo.
