Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/4/2014
Seemingly undervalued compared to trading cards from the same era are matchbook covers from New York City’s Diamond Match Company. Featuring swell images and write-ups of pre-war NHLers, this big batch constitutes an instant collection or dandy dealer lot. Hall-of-Famers present include Red Dutton, Ching Johnson, Syd Howe, Art Coulter, Earl Seibert, Harry Oliver, Lynn Patrick, Nels Stewart, Sweeney Schriner and Roy Worters, with the latter two featuring torn-off strikers. A Howie Morenz Black Hawks cover has its striker still stapled in place, with a tack hole beneath the icon’s picture and scuffing/soiling also to note. There is about a 50-50 split between Chicago players and non-Black Hawks, with Joe Starke of the Hawks considered scarce by some. With the exception of a half-dozen with damaged/missing strikers, all are in nice collectible condition.
