Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/4/2014
One of the key rookie cards of the postwar era, that of hockey icon Jean Beliveau, is a dandy way to start off this all-Habs group, with card #27 from Parkhurst’s 1953-53 set displaying better than its technical grade which is lowered by a tiny pinhole at the top and a blue ink stain that affects the back of the card, at the lower right corner. Free of any unsightly creases, (there’s a small corner crease), the card is joined by a VG Guy Lafleur O-Pee-Chee rookie card which the legend autographed nicely in classy gold ink and an OPC rookie of Patrick Roy. The latter shows quite a bit of handling/wear for a 1980s’ issue and is G-VG. An autographed insert card of Patrick however carries some weight; it’s a 2004-05 Legends Classics Signature Moments card numbered out of 125 and “books” for $100. An encapsulated autographed jersey card of Beliveau from 2004-05 In The Game Ultimate Memorabilia is numbered “20/40” and also lists for $100, while a 1999-2000 Maurice Richard signed Upper Deck Retro Inkredible card books for $200, with however a rather significant crease visible through the big thick Lucite screwdown holder it’s housed in. Patrick Roy’s 1992-93 autographed (819/1000) card from Durivage Bread meanwhile books these days for $200. The remainder will be a grab bag of sorts for the astute high bidder, with some three dozen Lafleur OPC cards from the 1970s and ‘80s, a handful of Parkies, (six from ’55-56 are G and VG) and close to 50 Roy Canadiens and Avalanche cards among them. A 1993 special Canadiens “Fanfest” set is still in its original shrink-wrapping, but is no longer housed in its original oversized puck-shaped box. Some interesting possibilities here!
