Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/4/2014
Forever popular are the little treasures that make up Parkhurst's inaugural hockey card issue, with a complete raw set always interesting to examine and consider. This ensemble exhibits handling and wear, with the majority of cards grading G, G+ and VG. Various condition issues are to report, with a person’s name and surname stamped to the back of a dozen cards, including the Gordie Howe RC, which someone tried to erase/rub off. Crease-free Howe has multiple small stains and typically, is narrower than the rest. The Richard and Sawchuk RCs also feature vivid colors, with light creases and very subtle evidence of once being pasted affecting the former and a rather heavy crease and light creases spotted in the latter. Harvey and Geoffrion are best among the other keys at VG. Please consult our website for more condition info and details of the dandy accompanying Parkies wrapper/box. Notables at VG are 26-Quackenbush, 28-Dumart, 37-Gadsby, 81-M. Bentley, 94-Stanley and 105-Conacher, while a touch lower at Good or Good+ are 3-Bouchard, 15-McNeil, 47-Lumley, 52-The Winning Goal (G+), 55-Kelly, 56-Lindsay and 86-Kennedy. We count only a handful (five) of Poor cards, (29-Schmidt, 75-Broda), with another eight at Fair, including 1-Lach, 48-D. Bentley, 63-Delvecchio and 80-Flaman. No real big names among those with the aforementioned first and last name of a former owner stamped on the back, with 104-Rayner the only Hall-of-Famer. The original little cardboard box picturing Toronto’s Ted Kennedy and which served as a wrapper has been preserved in attractive condition, with really only a light crease and a slight tear on the back to mention. The chance to score a complete ’51-52 Parkie set and a wrapper all at the same time does not come along frequently!
