Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/4/2014
Fantastic find is this rare Canadian-made sign by "The Thos Davidson MFG Co. Limited, Montreal, Tin Signs" that shows seven different colors, which by itself is quite rare for an early Canadian advertising piece as this one. The type of Derby pack promoted on this sign is the exact same type as the one the Imperial Tobacco C57 hockey cards were inserted in.The C57 set was a 50-card affair that featured players who skated in the NHA, PCHA and OHA. Possible pulls from a pack of Derby Cigarettes included the rookie cards of Broadbent and Benedict, along with big stars Vezina, Lalonde, Taylor, Ross, Patrick, Malone and the Cleghorns. The details on the sign are embossed it displays nicely and still has strong colors, especially for a 100+ years old sign. A scarce and superb hockey card-related tobacciana piece.
