Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2014

What stands out about the Jacques Plante autograph on this stick? It’s the real deal, that’s what! Jake the Snake has signed in lead pencil (slightly paled but perfectly legible) at the bottom of the shaft of this early-1970s Toronto Maple Leafs souvenir stick. Plante made a spectacular Toronto debut in 1970-71 when he went 24-11-4 in 40 games. His 1.88 goals-against-average and four shutouts earned him a spot on the NHL’s Second All-Star Team. Jacques teamed up once again with protégé Bernie Parent in 1971-72 as the Maple Leafs kept essentially the same lineup for most of those two seasons, as reflected by the 16 facsimile autographs of the likes of Ullman, Ellis, Sittler, Harrison, Keon, Ley, Baun, Parent and Henderson stamped on one side of the shaft of this 51” long stick.
