The signature of Sir Montagu Allan renders this stock certificate appealing indeed for those who have yet to land an autograph of the man who donated the Allan Cup. A Montreal sportsman and financier, Allan donated the trophy in 1908 after the Stanley Cup became a professional trophy. The esthetically pleasing certificate is for 30 second preference shares of the Acadia Coal Company. It is hand-dated November 21st, 1914 and signed by the company's president, H. Montagu Allan, in fountain pen and his signature is nice and clean with a light smudge to the "H" and a punch hole at the top of the "T". Measuring approximately 7 1/2" by 10 1/2", the stock share has four small punch holes and exhibits a light fold line down the middle. On the back are two other signatures and a stamped name from various Canadian bank personnel and four attached Canadian postal stamps. Overall, it remains in excellent condition and will make for a prized possession. Allan was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1945 and died six years later.
