Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/4/2014
Rare and fun photos of the minor pro Tulsa Oilers from the 1940s when they were playing in the old United States Hockey League, with 36 black and white photos in several different sizes showing the Oilers in full-on game action along with some great team pics, plus three photos of the gang enjoying some pops at different watering holes. Breaking it down we have 25 Oilers action photos measuring 5” x 7” and with “Photographer Wilmot Dahlen” stamps on the back of each; 7 photos measuring 8” x 10” which include action, team pics, player poses, and a great shot of the Tulsa rink all set for the Ice Capades; there’s a 3 ¼” x 9 ½” team picture which has the players’ names handwritten on both the front and back; 3 dinner photos with two including wives or friends – 2 at 5” x 7” and one measuring 4” x 6”. One of these, from an Omaha nightclub, has 4 dedicated signatures on the back folder signed to “Jack”, along with another from Bert Sayer’s Famous Supper Club in Tulsa (in its folder, signed on the back by HOFer Clint Smith (ind. 1991, dec. 2009), who played for the Oilers in 1947-48, and the smaller photo of players and wives is in a Toronto’s Top Hat Club folder. Also included is an 8” x 10” b&w mounted on thin cardboard of Mike Walton, who played for the Tulsa Oilers in 1964-65, with Walton signing in nice black marker as “To Mark, A great guy and a real good friend, my best wishes always, Michael “Shaky” Walton”. This photo has stains on the white border but overall remains in very nice condition, as are the rest which show only slight creasing in places along with handling evidence and the odd small edge tear.
