Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2014

Two formidable pieces for a Lord Stanley collection are these spectacular 1902 silver and bronze presentation medals that "Commemorate The Celebration of Guild Merchant," as appears on one side of both medals. One side of each medal features the highly detailed raised images of "The Earl of Derby K.G. Guild Mayor of Preston and the Countess of Derby." Both measure 2" in diameter and are 1/8 of an inch thick. Most impressive is the shiny silver coin, which comes with a box, while the bronze is also a great display companion, with the "Spink & Son" maker's name in raised small letters below the cameo portraits. The beautifully detailed Derby Coat of Arms is also on the reverse of each piece. Not one but two great finds to celebrate the man who gave the world the Stanley Cup.
