Superb World Hockey Association championship ring commemorating the Winnipeg Jets' 1978 Avco World Trophy title remains in beautiful condition and comes with its original and rarely-seen round wood presentation box. The Jets were the class of the WHA during the 1977-78 season as Bobby Hull and his Swedish posse of Anders Hedberg, Ulf Nilsson and rookie Kent Nilsson all posted 100-point seasons. Winnipeg chalked up an impressive 50 wins and 102 points during the regular season and then won 8 of 9 playoff games, including a 4-game sweep of the New England Whalers in the finals. This magnificent size 10 1/2 diamond and gold beauty by Jostens was presented to defenseman Ken Baird, who signed with the Jets in December 1977 after he was released by Edmonton. Baird contributed 14 goals and 21 points in 49 regular season games with the Jets and added 4 assists in 7 playoff games as Winnipeg claimed its second of three titles during the WHA's seven-season existence during the 1970s. A solitary diamond on the face is set in a gold starburst pattern encircled by "WHA Champions" in raised letters on the upper and lower bezel. The left shank features the Jets logo with "Baird" engraved on a banner above. A raised image of the Avco Cup trophy sits between "78" in raised gold on the right shank with "Avco Cup" engraved on a banner above it. "Josten's 10K" is stamped inside the band. Wonderful wood ring box stands 2 1/2" tall and measures 3" in diameter with a gold-colored Jets logo printed on the cover. Please take note that this item might be subject to a silent reserve. Comes with a Classic Auctions LOA.
