Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2014

Rarely seen Canadiens team photo pictures the Montreal squad lined up and standing outside on wooden boards, with indications pointing to either the 1926-27 or 1927-28 seasons. The presence of Herb Gardiner, Marty Burke and Gizzy Hart, along with the fact that Georges Mantha had not yet arrived (he began his career in '28-29), help us to zero in on those years. Legends Howie Morenz, Aurele Joliat and George Hainsworth are most notable, with Lepine, Leduc, Larochelle, Gagne and captain Sylvio Mantha also present. "Lucien Desjardins" is the name of the photographer, with the matte-finish image measuring just over 7" x 23". A significant tear, top to bottom, separates the photo into two halves and ancient scotch tape completes a rudimentary repair. The bottom edge has a section of paper loss, but otherwise the photo is well-preserved and in very presentable condition. Morenz won the scoring title (ahead of Joliat) in leading Montreal to the regular season championship.
