Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2014

Wow, not only a signed Maurice Richard game-used stick but one that may have come from a big Montreal Canadiens win against the Detroit Red Wings late in the 1953-54 season! The Rocket placed a huge vintage period autograph with “1954” written above his signature on a nice bare spot on the shaft of his CCM Pattern Made gamer, to the right of a French language notation that reads, “Saturday, March 20, 1954, Detroit 1 Canadiens 6, NHL, souvenir from Maurice Richard.” The name of the possible recipient, “Pierre Martineau 1954” is written to the right of the autograph. “Richard 9” is stamped on the shaft and the name “Denis” is blacked out on the autograph side of the shaft, and written in red on the other side below the Rocket’s well-worn original tape job on the knob. “Raymond Hardware” stamp sits on that side of the shaft. There are a few strands of tape missing from the heel of Richard’s original black tape job on the blade, which has a broken top half of the toe, and there is a hole drilled through the middle of the shaft. A fantastic piece from the dawn of the Canadiens’ great Stanley Cup dynasty of the 1950s and the height of the Rocket’s red glare!
