HOFer Ray Bourque’s 1985-86 Bruins game-worn captain’s jersey is from the legendary defenseman’s first season wearing the C for Boston. The evidence of a evidence of a former alternate captain’s A underneath the C tells a story as Rick Middleton and Bourque were named co-captains in 1985. Middleton wore the C for home games while Bourque captained the team on the road. The shared captaincy system remained in place for the final three seasons of Middleton's career, which concluded at the end of the 1987-88 season. Middleton only played 49 games in 1985-86 which explains why the C would be on Bourque's jersey with evidence of a former A. Solid photo match from a framed 8x10 displays Ray in action and clearly shows the big team repair over the burns with red paint transfer on the right sleeve to the right of the number 7, which Bourque wore before he gave it up to let it be retired in honor of Phil Esposito. There are over 10 more repairs on the right sleeve alone, six more on the left sleeve, four on the back, another on the left shoulder, and one more on the right. Black marks on the front and both sleeves, with more great board burns and red paint transfer on the tails and sleeves, with a burn that fairly melted the fabric on the hem of the right cuff! Please note that this item may be subject to a silent reserve. The photo-matched team repair is composed of too many overlapping repairs to distinguish from each other.
There are light reddish brown stains on the left shoulder.
