Cool late-1950s and early-1960s Edmonton Oil Kings tie-neck gamer with 60-plus team repairs was worn by Eddie Joyal and Vince Downey. It was obtained directly from Downey, who wore it during the 1960-61 season. Downey recalled that it was also worn in previous seasons, 1958-59 and 1959-60, by Joyal, who played 466 NHL games with Detroit, Toronto, Los Angeles and Philadelphia before jumping to the WHA’s Oilers, where he played his last four pro seasons. Elaborate felt Oil Kings crest retains the puffy script team name across yellow felt crown, that has lost some of its details. There is a team repair in the middle of the crown and at the bottom of the crest under “Edmonton” which is missing some of its red felt. Game wear includes extensive team repairs, with at least 20 on the right sleeve, including a huge grouping on the elbow, another 15 on the left sleeve, 14 on the front and 15 on the back. This jersey is photo-matched to a newspaper picture of Vince Downey where you can clearly see the diagonal line of excessive wear in the middle of the team crest. The white and red double felt numbers sewn on the back are nice and clean with vibrant colors. There is a vertical black thread team repair on the red felt in the middle of the right side of the “1” on the back.
