Remarkable 1951-52 Edmonton Mercurys game-worn wool jersey was worn by coach Louis Holmes during the team's 1951-52 AAHA season. It was then worn by former Trail Smoke Eater, Louis Secco who joined the team for the pre-Olympic European tour and the 1952 Olympic competition in Oslo of which the Mercurys were victorious and a photo of Secco offers a clear photo-match to the team crest. Photographic evidence shows coach Louis Holmes in the # 12 jersey in a team photo that was sent to Europe for use in the tour's programs. Another team photo taken just prior to the team embarking on the tour shows Louis Secco wearing the # 12 and coach Louis Holmes in his civvies. “A Caldwell Pure Wool Product” tagging remains in the back of the collar of this wonderful wool creation that we measure out to a size 38. “Mercurys” team patch is sewn across the top front with number 12 below it accented in blue and red stitching on the white on blue double felt, the same as the numbers on the back. The Mercurys logo patch is sewn on the right shoulder. Big wool team repairs on both sleeves testify to this treasure’s extensive game use, probably beyond the European Tour in the Mercurys following season . Fascinating piece of Canadian hockey history with some light reddish color bleeding and holes that do not diminish its display. This battle-tested jersey was possibly worn the following season by Gord Robertson. Jersey is photo-matched to the slight space between the # 2 and the "Mercurys" crest as well as the way the two tips of the crest go up into the white shoulder. The left one is not into the shoulder as much as the right one. The lettering in the crest matches up perfectly in style and position. The first "R" in MERCURYS and how the bottom right stem is fat and curls back. The second "R" MERCURYS stem is straight.
