Paul Henderson’s “Goal of the Century” is featured twice in this set of 25 prints from Prudential’s “Great Moments in Canadian Sports”. Henderson is depicted celebrating his Summit Series-clinching goal with Team Canada mates Yvan Cournoyer and Phil Esposito in front of sprawled Soviet goaltender Vladislav Tretiak in one of the seven hockey scenes included in each 24-print set. Lester Patrick’s remarkable turn in goal for the Rangers in the 1928 Stanley Cup final, Maurice “Rocket” Richard’s incredible 50 goals in 50 games in 1945, the first meeting of 50-goal scorers in NHL history in 1962 between Chicago’s Bobby Hull and Montreal’s Bernie “Boom Boom” Geoffrion, the Maple Leafs’ 1962 Stanley Cup win, Gordie Howe’s record-breaking 545th goal in 1963, Bobby Orr scoring the winner in overtime in 1970 (just before he flies through the air), and Darryl Sittler’s 6-goal, 10-point game in 1976 are the other magnificent hockey scenes in the collection. Nancy Greene, the ’59 Regina curling rink, Marilyn Bell, Jimmy McLarnin, Barbara Ann Scott, Sandy Hawley, Northern Dancer, Percy Williams, Ferguson Jenkins, Russ Jackson, the Bluenose and the Calgary Stampede are among the other iconic Canadian sports stories illustrated in this remarkable collection of nicely preserved 16 1/2" x 12 1/2" prints. Condition-wise sees the majority to be excellent with no tears or creases, and to note are stains on the top borders of the Rocket's, the Calgary Stampede, Anne Heggtveit, and Nancy Greene prints, some wear on the top edge of the Jackie Parker border, some faint yellowing on the edge of the Russ Jackson border, and some marks on the back of one of the Henderson prints.
