Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/17/2014
The late Roberto Clemente has autographed this 1970 Pittsburgh Pirates team-signed baseball. One year before winning the World Series, the Bucs went 89-73 to win the NL East Division title. Clemente hit .352 with 14 homers and 60 RBIs in 108 games. Manager Danny Murtaugh has signed the sweet spot and the great Clemente placed his blue ballpoint signature across the scuffed Spalding stamp on the panel below NL president Feeney's facsimile autograph. Sanguillen has signed below Roberto, and Alou, Oliver, Hebner, Alley, Moose, Blass, Veale and Giusti are among the rest of the 26 members of the 1970 Pirates whose autographs cover this vintage ball, which displays various scuffs and wear. Comes with a JSA LOA. Among the other Pirates who have signed are Patek, Pagan, Ricketts, Jeter, Walker, Dal Canton, Nelson, Pena and Colpaert.
A blue “32” stamp sits atop the faded Spalding logo above Clemente’s autograph. A “2” can be made out in lighter blue ballpoint above coach Bill Virdon’s signature at the top of the opposite panel.
