Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2014

Talk about having a household name. Young Andy Bathgate, drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 5th Round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, and the grandson of HOFer Andy Bathgate (inducted 1978). We have young Andy’s late-2000s Pittsburgh Penguins practice jersey, tagged in the collar as a size “56”, with faint game-marks showing on the black material, the back number “79” is the screened-on rubberized variety, and the Bathgate nameplate is a removable Velcro-style. Jersey comes with an LOA signed by two representatives of the Pittsburgh Penguins. HOFer Bathgate was picked up by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 1967 expansion draft and scored the first goal for the Pittsburgh Penguins franchise in 1967 versus the Montreal Canadiens in a 2-1 loss at the Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh. It was ironic that the Penguins would later draft his grandson in 2009. Also included is a Tom Barrasso replica/street hockey mask, signed in clear and bold gold marker by Barrasso, with the mask having full inner padding and a nice scratch-free Pens-colored design on the outer shell. Only a couple of small spots on the inner padding are to note. Barrasso broke into the NHL with Buffalo in 1984 and stayed for 5 ½ seasons before joining the Penguins where he earned his pay for the better part of 12 years. He also strapped on the pads for Ottawa, Carolina, Toronto and St. Louis.
