Denis Potvin's legacy as the greatest captain in New York Islanders history is unassailable. Denis delivered on his promise as the No. 1 pick in the 1973 draft by leading the Islanders to four straight Stanley Cups from 1980-83. The two-time Norris Trophy winner was the highest-scoring defenseman in NHL history when he finally hung up his skates, so Rangers fans at Madison Square Garden can keep up their chant all they want, but the numbers, awards and honors say otherwise. Wonderful offering is the HOF defenseman's photo-matched Islanders game-worn captain's jersey. It dates from either the 1985-86 or 1986-87 season as per the simple white twill C on the left breast and the white twill surname lettering on the nameplate. No tagging remains in the neck but Syosset Sports is embroidered on the left rear tail and the CCM logo with the small asterisk is on the right rear tail. The photo match shows in the small black mark in middle of hockey stick blade on the team crest, as well as the placement of the 5 on the left sleeve and its bottom portion sewn on in a slightly crooked fashion. The puckering lines in the middle of the team crest in the photo also seem to match the ones on this gamer. The narrow double twill numbers on both sleeves are sewn on directly over the white band on the sleeves. Great game use on this tempting photo-matched jersey worn by one of the greatest defensemen ever. Comes with a Classic Auctions LOA. Game wear includes countless black stick and puck marks and general soiling across the lower front. Both sleeves include black marks, burns and holes/slices; six on the left and one on the right. Black marks and soiling are also along the lower back while some interior pilling beneath the salty fight strap is also of note.
