Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2014

Precious and very rare ducat from the legendary 1972 Summit Series is this 5 1/4" x 1 3/4" full ticket to Game 1 of the Canada-Russia showdown at the old Montreal Forum. While those on hand fully expected Team Canada to put on a hockey clinic, it was the Soviets who stunned the NHL pros that fateful September 2 by coming back from an early two-goal deficit to post a 7-3 rout that shocked all of Canada. Game on! An exceptional find as Forum ticket takers would typically tear the full ticket and return a short stub to the patron as they entered. This crease-free beauty is magnificently preserved in essentially clean condition with only a few reddish-brown stains on the reverse that do not diminish its display. [red]Addendum; a display case was added to this lot which is detailed below.[/red] Included also is a sensational handcrafted wooden display case measuring 13 ½” x 16 ½” x 3 ¾” with a gorgeous title on the outer lid reading as “Summit Series 1972 Signature Cuts & Originals”, while inside are three separate displays encased in plastic; a Russian postcard sent from Moscow after game 6 (in French) with accompanying text explaining in general the contents of the card, along with a section to place the game 1 Forum ticket with nearby text; Six signatures from the 1972 Russian team, signed in either blue, red, or purple ballpoint pen, from Tretiak, Lutchenko, Petrov, Mikhailov, Anison, and Tsygankov. (Please note, Cyrillic signatures are sometimes very difficult to fully ascertain, but with the aide of a Russian associate, we feel we have it figured out); And finally, in the third encased plastic and on a backdrop of a copied 12” Summit pennant, is a display of 4 non-mint cards including Serge Savard with accompanying autograph cut, Peter Mahovlich with signed cut, and an “In The Game” Clarke/Kharlamov card with original pieces of their jerseys included and with a Clarke autograph cut. An unsigned 1965-66 Topps Paul Henderson rookie card (with pen marks) rounds out the lot.
