Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/17/2014
A swell image on the cover of slugger Eddie Mathews, in action during a night game in Milwaukee, along with 27 colorful baseball card-like images in a three-page foldout inside have always garnered the fancy of collectors. There is also of course the “first” factor of Sports Illustrated’s inaugural issue, with a Certificate of Authenticity from SI confirming that this is indeed a genuine 146-page Volume 1, Number 1 original. A little cover creasing in the upper left corner and a tiny spine split nearby are to mention, but overall, the pub has survived in nice collectible condition with no unsightly/major flaws. A light bend in part of the upper row of the Topps card images is not really a crease or drastic – you’ll be instead zeroing-in on the marvelous pictures of Willie, Jackie, Duke, Teddy Ballgame and the rest. A wonderful trip back to August, 1954 will then be provided with the rest of the intriguing and entertaining content - superb!
