Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/17/2014
History-maker Sam Rothschild's rookie card here, found in a pack of Champ's Cigarettes during his and the Montreal Maroons' first NHL season has been encapsulated and deemed in EX 5 condition by PSA. The Sudbury, Ontario native became the first Jewish player in the NHL when signed by the Maroons in 1924. Reportedly playing at just 125 pounds, the 5'6" Rothschild was thus one of the lightest pro hockey players ever. PSA reports of a total of 15 submissions of the Champ's Rothschild RC, with six of them ahead of this Pop-2.
