Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/17/2014
A depiction of hockey icon George Vezina in a vivid red Montreal Canadiens sweater is offered here, with the Hall-of-Famer's rookie card ranking as one of the most important and desirable of all-time. The Chicoutimi, Quebec native was in his second of sixteen seasons with Montreal when Imperial Tobacco included this prize in a pack of cigarettes. Four seasons later was when Georges would backstop the Canadiens to their first of 24 Stanley Cup championships. He'd continue on, winning another Cup in the spring of 1924 and never missed a game, (over 350!), before collapsing in the 1925-26 season opener. Vezina died weeks later from tuberculosis. The legend lives on, with famous card #38 here encapsulated and graded EX 5 by SGC and ready to contribute to your serious tobacco/rookie card stash.
