They were rejected for the NHL’s first expansion in 1967, and rejected again when the idea came about moving the struggling Oakland Seals there, but finally, beginning in the fall of 1970, Vancouverites could say they had an NHL team in their city. The Canucks would play their inaugural game on Oct. 9, 1970 at home in the Pacific Coliseum against the visiting Los Angeles Kings, and we have a pair of ticket stubs from that historic first game. Preserved in great condition with “10-26-1” handwritten on the back of one, these tickets, which measure 1 ¼” x 2”, cost $6.50 at the time, and have “Game 1, 1970” printed on the front. Tremendously important ticket stubs indeed.
