Super interesting 1 ½ page letter from Leafs’ Acting Manager Frank J. Selke in 1942 tops the bill of this cool Leafs lot that also features some great photos from legendary Buds. The typed letter on Maple Leaf Gardens letterhead, signed by Selke (HOF ind. 1960, dec. 1985), shows the legendary man (who would become boss of the Habs four years later), writing some harsh words about various players including Gordie Drillon, and nice things about a few others (Gaye Stewart, Billy Taylor). Selke’s signature is in clear black ballpoint pen, while the letter shows fold creases, some roughness on the edges, and some slight staining, along with a few numbers handwritten on the reverse. Accompanying this terrific letter is a vintage 8” x 10” photo of Turk Broda; a vintage 8” x 10” photo of the 1946-47 Toronto Maple Leafs with the iconic Alexandra Studio stamp on the back and a typed player’s list; 2 vintage b&w photos (4 ¼” x 6 ½”) of Charlie Conacher dressed in NHL Old Timers gear; and a signed Ted Kennedy 8” x 10" reproduced photo from the HOF, with Kennedy signing in clear and bold gold pen. All photos are in great condition, with the Leafs team picture from the Alexandra Studio showing some marks and yellowing on the back, some edge roughness, and a small tear on the right border.
