Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2014

Good old Johnny Bower, inducted into the HOF in 1976, keeper of the net, first with the Rangers and then 11 seasons with the Leafs, all the while having everyone wonder exactly how old he really was. But regardless if he was older than he admitted, he stopped pucks in a big way and he hoisted Lord Stanley’s mug 4 times. Offered is one of Johnny’s 1960s Toronto Maple Leafs game-used sticks, with “C.C.M Custom” marked on the paddle and “Bower” stamped on the upper shaft. But although the tape job is vintage, it’s not the original tape job, as someone after him began using it and taped it in a different manner, with lots of wear showing on the bottom of the blade. Maybe it was used for road hockey once upon a time. There is though the possibility that the knob tape job is part of the original Bower handywork. This old Bower gamer has several cracks in the blade, with the aforementioned roughness on the bottom, but all in all, even with a different tape job and some issues with the blade, it’s still a vintage gamer from Mr. Bower during the Leafs’ glory years. Which definitely makes it an important piece of hockey history
