Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2014

The late Jacques Plante is among five members of the Hockey Hall of Fame that have signed Guy Lafleur’s 1983-84 Montreal Canadiens team-issued stick. Plante, who was the Canadiens’ goalie coach, signed in blue ballpoint between the “PMP 5030” and “Feather Lite” printed on Guy’s Sher-Wood with “Lafleur G. 10” stamped on the top of the shaft and a “16 Avr. 1984” date stamp on the back. HOFers Larry Robinson and Steve Shutt are among the eight blue ballpoint signatures that have been applied to the front of the shaft, which was sanded down for autographs to be applied, including those of Bobby Smith, Rick Wamsley and trainer Gaetan Lefebvre. Habs captain Bob Gainey has signed at the top of the shaft on the opposite side of the stick which is autographed by 19, including fellow HOFer Chris Chelios as well as Guy Carbonneau, Ryan Walter, Mario Tremblay, Pierre Mondou and Ric Nattress, among others. Both sides of the stick are varnished and “Les Canadiens” is spelled out in black letters stuck on the blade which has a CH logo sticker applied to the heel. “Autographed Sticks Lafleur Montreal” is handwritten on a vintatge Molson’s sticker applied and wrapped around three sides of the top of the shaft. A cool Lafleur game-issued stick with a nice grouping of Habs HOFers autographs, with the desirable Plante signature, representing the 1950s dynasty, featured along with Shutt and two other greats from the 1970s, Gainey and Robinson, who were on hand two years later when Chelios won the Stanley Cup in 1986.
