Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/17/2014
The Detroit Red Wings would clash with the New York Rangers on March 22, 1950, a preview of the upcoming Stanley Finals when the two would meet again, and we have a program from that night, a complete 22-pager, and as a capper, the cover is jam-packed with signatures from the Wings who ultimately would win it all that year. We count 26 names, plus another on the back cover, that not only include Gordie Howe signing his name in a rare "Gord Howe" version, but also of deceased HOFers Jack Stewart, Sid Abel, Jack Adams, Tommy Ivan, and Harry Lumley. As a bonus, we're also including an Olympia program cover also signed by legendary HOFer Jack Adams (ind. 1959, dec. 1968). The March 22, 1950 program is unmarked with the lineups pages included, but has some loose pages and wear, particularly on the edges. Along with Howe and deceased HOFers Jack Stewart, Sid Able, Jack Adams, Tommy Ivan, and Harry Lumley, we also see signatures of HOFers Red Kelly, Ted Lindsay, and Marcel Pronovost, plus George Gee, John Wilson, Gerry Couture, Bill Brennan, Jim McFadden, Pete Babando, Clare Martin, Larry Wilson, Joe Carveth (on front and back), Max McNab, Steve Black, Lee Fogolin, Leo Reise, Harry McQueston, Marty Pavelich, and Jim Peters. There’s a slight smudge on top of Lindsay and Adams’ sigs, and a small paper tear is in the middle of John Wilson’s, but overall, the 26 signatures, signed either in black or blue ink, are nice, clear and absolutely legible.
