Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2014

Always cool are vintage NHL contracts and Option Agreements because along with the historical aspect, it's fun to see what teams were paying their players way back when and who signed the documents. These two examples are no exception, with the first being an NHL Standard Player's Contract for Toronto Maple Leaf winger Ray Timgren signed by league President Clarence Campbell along with Timgren and Leafs assistant GM and Hap Day. The second document is a Maple Leaf Gardens Option Agreement "C" paper for player Ronald Farnfield, dated April 23, 1955 signed in blue ballpoint pen by Farnfield, Hap Day, and former player and then-scout Bob Davidson. NHL Standard Player’s Contract for Toronto Maple Leaf winger Ray Timgren, whose deal called for $7500.00 if he played for the Leafs and $4750.00 if he was sent to the minors. Unfortunately for Timgren, he was sent to the minors, this after 251 NHL games under his belt, mainly with the Leafs. This document, in outstanding condition with normal folds and measuring 8 ½” x 16” unfolded, is signed by league President Clarence Campbell along with Timgren and Leafs assistant GM and Hap Day. The second document, also in great condition with a couple of normal folds and some corner creases, is a Maple Leaf Gardens Option Agreement “C” paper for player Ronald Farnfield, dated April 23, 1955, detailing amounts paid depending on what league Farnfield would play in - $3500.00 for the Quebec League, $4000.00 for the AHL, $6000.00 for the NHL etc. (Unfortunately, Mr. Farnfield would play in none). It’s signed in clear blue ballpoint pen by Farnfield, Hap Day, and former player and then-scout Bob Davidson.
