Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/17/2014
Outstanding piece of Maple Leaf Gardens and Toronto Maple Leafs history is this original 1949-50 Maple Leafs hand-painted dressing room wood sign that once hung in the venerable arena. Conn Smythe, coach Hap Day and team captain Ted Kennedy head up the names of the Leafs' dynasty that became the first NHL team to win three Stanley Cups the previous spring. Bill Barilko's name is in the middle and Tim Horton appears at the bottom just above the 1949-50 Maple Leafs' regular season record. HOFers Broda, Bentley and Watson and the likes of Klukay, Ezinicki, Thomson, Boesch, Mortson, Meeker, Lynn, Smith, Gardner, Mackell, Juzda, Migay and Rollins are among the others listed in dark blue paint on a beige background with a Masonite backing, all displayed in its original 41" x 20" blue wood frame. The original Waddington's tag remains attached from the MLG November 2000 auction. Various marks to the frame and sign testify to its place as a display piece in Maple Leaf Gardens history.
