Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2014

This tantalizing diamond and gold creation commemorates the Montreal Canadiens' somewhat unlikely 24th Stanley Cup championship in 1993. Though the 100th anniversary of Lord Stanley's silver Cup certainly made the Habs a fitting choice to hoist hockey's holy grail, the Canadiens' 16-win run to the title that spring was most unexpected. Patrick Roy turned in his second Conn Smythe performance and Montreal beat out Quebec, Buffalo, the New York Islanders and Los Angeles, losing only four of 20 playoff games to take full advantage of Cup-favorite Pittsburgh's shocking second-round ouster while fashioning an incredible 10 straight overtime wins! In commemoration of the stunning championship on the occasion of the Cup's centennial, the Canadiens presented this breathtaking keepsake to the family of the late Claude Mouton, the venerable Montreal Forum public address announcer who died of cancer on March 30, 1993. The magnificent tableau displays 46 real diamonds surrounding and decorating the raised image of the Stanley Cup with "1993" below. The 100th anniversary is represented by the 100 points of diamonds. One shank features the 1993 logo of the Stanley Cup finals with "Canadiens Montreal" above and "24 Together" below, while the other includes "Mouton", an enameled Canadiens logo and "P.R." for Mouton's title as the Habs' director of public relations. The ring weighs about 35 grams with "Everest" and "14K" stamped inside the size 12 1/2 band. Originally obtained from the Mouton family, this sensational tribute to the fabled franchise's most recent championship has various surface scratches and some nicks on the back of the band. It will impress all beholders and comes with a Classic Auctions LOA. Please note that this item may be subject to a silent reserve.
