Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013

It was entitled Chicago Coin's Goalee, from 1946, and it was a coin-operated hockey game featuring two players firing the puck back and forth. Originally it was a playing surface parked on a large stand with lit background sign, with all the bells and whistles, but sadly, much of it has gone to that big arcade in the sky. But we have the playing surface, which is gorgeous in its own right. Measuring 19 1/2" x 42" by 2", this wood bluish-colored game has wonderful graphics of a couple of circa-1930s players, each approximately 12" high, battling hard at centre ice. The graphics are clear and crisp, and the board in general shows only natural handling and aging from the years. Where else would you find this? When this game was in its complete form, it showed a cartoon goalie on illuminated back sign, smiling away, while below was the playing surface, which you see here, encased in wood and glass. The varnish wood stand was about three feet tall, with the coin-operated slot in front. It cost a nickle to play, and either one or two plyers could participate, using handles on the top front of the stand to contol the goalie/shooter. Numbers at the ends of the playing surface lit up to show the score.
