Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013

The late Gilles Villeneuve was a comet on the track and in his all-too-short life, streaking by in a flash and suddenly gone forever. Villeneuve, the father of 1997 world champion Jacques Villeneuve, won six Grand Prix races overall from 1977-82, including three in 1979 when he finished runner-up to Ferrari teammate Jody Scheckter for the Formula One drivers' championship. Montreal's Formula One racetrack was named Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in his honour in 1982 after he was killed in a horrific crash during qualifying for that year's Belgian Grand Prix. Gilles placed a big blue ballpoint autograph on the upper right portion of this 9 1/2" x 11 1/2" photo of himself in his Ferrari uniform. Print on thick photo paper stock is nicely preserved with few very small creases in the corners. Comes with a Classic Auctions LOA. There are a few handwritten notations on the upper right corner of the blank reverse.
