They were a juggernaut of unrivaled proportions, an Edmonton Oilers squad coming off a Stanley Cup championship the previous season and liking it so much they decided to do it again. Yes indeed, the Edmonton Oilers of the 1984-85 season were picking up steam, earning 109 points, four behind league-leading Philadelphia whom the Oilers would later trample over in the post season, and with the unparalleled Wayne Gretzky garnering 208 points, Jari Kurri notching 71 goals, and Paul Coffey adding 121 points and winning the Norris Trophy. Add Mark Messier, Glenn Anderson, Kevin Lowe, Grant Fuhr and the rest of the "Boys on the Bus" to the mix and you have one of the greatest and most formidable squads to ever strike fear into opposing teams, especially goalies. In the playoffs of that year, the Oilers showed that the regular season was no anomaly as Gretz and the gang made short work of the LA Kings, taking them out in three games, then four straight against the Jets, four games to two over the Chicago Black Hawks, and in the finals making short work of the Philadelphia Flyers in five games to hoist their second straight Stanley Cup and which would ultimately become four titles in five years.
Offered is a strikingly beautiful Oilers Stanley Cup ring that commemorates that '84-'85 season, a ring which belonged to owner Peter Pocklington and one that he had made in the early-2000s. This 14K gold bauble, a size 10 1/2, features a mound of zirconias on the face, surrounded by "1985 Stanley Cup Champions" in raised lettering, with two Stanley Cups marked with raised letters on one shank as "84 and 85 Edmonton Oilers", with the opposite shank showing the Oilers logo between "Pocklington" and "Owner". The inner band is stamped with "14K" and two unidentifiable hallmarking symbols. This incredibly beautiful and important ring which once belonged to Mr. Pocklington comes in a simple yet tasteful wooden box measuring 2" x 2" x 2', with foam lining for ring protection. The ring is in outstanding condition with only light traces of scratching on the inner band, barely visible with the naked eye. Comes with an LOA on "Peter H. Pocklington" letterhead, signed by Mr. Pocklington.
