Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2013
Montreal Canadiens forward Bob Fillion, who skated for the Habs from 1943 until 1950, laced up these old CCM skates in the early 1950s after he’d left the Canadiens and was patrolling the left wing in the QSHL. Showing great game wear, these CCMs have the unavoidable scuffing in the toes and boot leather, with the blades a tad rusty. Handwritten in black on the outer top of each skate is “Bob Fillion 1937”. Also offered is a pair of Fillion’s CCM Tacks size 8 Oldtimers skates, also showing the normal wear and tear that comes with playing hockey, with scuffs and nicks throughout. Handwritten in white on each boot is “10”. Fillion was one of seven hockey-playing brothers from Thedford Mines, with all reaching at least some type of minor pro. One brother, Marcel, played one game with the Boston Bruins in 1944-45, while another brother George received a tryout with the Montreal Canadiens but returned home and hooked up with the QSHL. Bob Fillion had played junior hockey with Maurice Richard in Verdun, and joined number 9 on the Habs teams of the 1940s. Two nice set of skates from an important Montreal Canadien player from the 1940s.
