Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2013
Retired goaltender Bruce Racine, would see action later in the decade in the NHL with the St. Louis Blues, was originally signed with the Pittsburgh Penguins and was called up to the big club in February of 1991 when he suited up but saw no action. It was during this season, possibly during training camp/pre-season, that the goaltender slipped this game-used jersey on to go out and stop pucks. The handwriting is difficult to ascertain in the collar, with numbers or letters following the "3", and the front crest has some stains. Marks are noticeable in various places on the front of this gamer. On the left sleeve is sewn the "41st NHL All-Star Game Pittsburgh" patch, which was played the previous season, 1989-90, and the Pens continued to wear the patch until November of 1990 when the Chicago Blackhawks, who were hosting the '90-'91 All-Star game, lodged a complaint, forcing the Pens to retire the set, including this gamer you see here.
