Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2013
A year in which he served as head coach of both the U.S. Olympic team and the Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes, 2006 will always hold a very special place for Peter Laviolette. The veteran NHL coach signed this Hurricanes banner which commemorates his tenure as the head coach of the U.S. Olympic team that competed in Turin. Peter signed in black marker on the top right corner of one side of this 37” x22” banner which proudly displays the Stars and Stripes along with the Torino 2006 logo. Auctioned during a Hurricanes home game, it is a replica of the banner the team hung in the RBC Center to recognize Laviolette’s coaching stint with the American Olympic team, which he played for twice, first in 1988 in Calgary and again in Albertville in 1992. While the Americans came up short with an eighth place showing in 2006, the rest of the year just got better for Laviolette as the Hurricanes claimed the franchise’s first Stanley Cup with a seven-game win over Edmonton in the final.
