Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2013
Gorgeous circa 1970s Team Finland #24 game-worn jersey was worn by forward Matti Rautiainen, a mainstay on the national team who scored six goals in six games during the 1976 Olympics in Innsbruck. This national team knit gamer from the mid-1970s saw duty in international competitions. "Suomi" is spelled out in sewn-on red and white double twill above a color-faded national crest sewn on the front. The small flag tag in the neck is completely washed out and a nameplate has been removed from the back above the red and white sewn-on double twill numbers. There is an unrepaired hole to the left of the crest and a few other small holes on this game-worn international jersey that do not diminish its display. According to our consignor, Rautiainen wore number 24 in all major international events beginning with his national team debut in the 1976 Olympics and through the 1979 IIHF worlds in Moscow. He chose that jersey number to honor Vladimir Yurzinov, who wore number 24 as Rautiainen’s linemate with Finnish club team KooVee when Yurzinov was at the end of his career.
