Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2013
This is a beautiful silver-plated presentation mug given by Brading Breweries to Ottawa Rough Rider Pete Karpuk in honor of his team’s 1951 Grey Cup win. Karpuk was a bit of an eccentric who is best remembered for coming off the bench in a 1951 game to tackle Toronto Argonaut Ulysses Curtis who was on his way to the end zone. This move prompted the league to make changes to the rule book which up to that point didn’t cover such odd “plays”. The glass-bottomed beer mug is beautifully engraved on the front with Karpuk’s name along with “Ottawa Rough Riders Grey Cup Winners 1951” below which “Presented by Brading Breweries Limited” appears. This electroplated copper piece was made in Canada and bears the makers “SP” hallmark on the bottom. It stands 4.5” tall and is in excellent condition with one minor ding that could easily be repaired. Don’t miss your chance to own this amazing and important piece of CFL and Grey Cup history.
