Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2013
Fascinating pre-war collectibles and seemingly undervalued when compared to cards of the same era, these "silver" matchbook covers were the first issued by New York's Diamond Match Company featuring hockey players. And what a line-up, with an impressive 16 Hall-of-Famers included, led by the likes of Howie Morenz, Eddie Shore, Lionel Conacher and Aurele Joliat. Others are Barry, Boucher, the Cook brothers, Clapper, Dutton, Gardiner, Mantha, Oliver, Stewart, Thompson and Worters. The set of 60 is in nice collectible condition with no creases through the players' images, just where the covers were once folded. Some silver color loss to the Shore and Conacher covers is to note, along with expected intermittent wear where a staple once was. Some strikers were struck, including Morenz, but you'll be focusing on the fab images and bios. Complete sets turn up infrequently!
