Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2013
A consistent scorer throughout his career, Hall-of-Famer Syd Howe was in the middle of his 12-year run with the Detroit Red Wings when he appeared on big 5” by 7” cards put out by O-Pee-Chee during the 1939-40 hockey season. This one scored the highest of any card #72 in the history of PSA, its remarkable mark of NM-MT 8 placing it alone at the front of the Howe “line” on the PSA Population Report. Thirteen others are envious of this one, with an EX-MT+ 6.5 its closest rival. Also, it is one of only 16 cards from ’39-40 (all players combined – 954 total submissions as of press time) to be awarded NM-MT 8 recognition.
