Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2013
A unique and extremely scarce issue put out by O’Keefe’s Beverages to pay tribute to the Toronto Maple Leafs’ 1931-32 Stanley Cup championship was a set of 20 coasters, or “blotters” as they were referred to in an original ad, measuring 6” by 6” from their furthest points and difficult to find in any condition. PSA Population Report figures confirm the scarcity, with just 28 total coasters sent to PSA over the years, with our consignor’s tempting set featuring 13 “highest-graded-at-PSA” examples. The coasters feature the artwork of prominent Canadian cartoon artist Lou Skuce, with their numbers matching the players’ uniform numbers. ......Another PSA champion is offered here, with Baldy Cotton finally becoming a Stanley Cup champion after seven NHL seasons, the first 3-1/2 with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Mentioning the other sports that Cotton played and slabbed GOOD+ 2.5, this coaster betters the only other similar one, (slabbed PR 1), on the PSA chart.
