Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2013
A unique and extremely scarce issue put out by O’Keefe’s Beverages to honor the Toronto Maple Leafs’ 1931-32 Stanley Cup championship was a set of 20 coasters, or blotters, measuring 6” by 6” from their furthest points and difficult to locate in any condition. PSA Population Report figures confirm the scarcity, with just 28 total coasters sent to PSA over the years, with our consignor’s fascinating set featuring 13 “highest-graded-at-PSA” examples. The coasters feature the artwork of prominent Canadian cartoon artist Lou Skuce. ......Maple Leafs’ team captain Hap Day is marvelously depicted on this No. 4 coaster, which is not only the highest ever graded Day coaster, but also one of just two to garner VG+ 3.5 status at PSA – the highest mark ever given to an O’Keefe’s coaster. Two other similar Day pieces, (both GOOD 2) appear on the PSA Population Report.
