Yes, yet another captivating ensemble of collectibles to earn the title of "The Number One Set of All-Time" at PSA is this intriguing group that will interest Toronto Maple Leaf and vintage oddball collectors alike. A unique and extremely scarce issue put out by O'Keefe's Beverages to pay tribute to the Maple Leafs' 1931-32 Stanley Cup championship was a set of 20 coasters, or "blotters" as they were referred to in an original ad, measuring 6" by 6" from their furthest points and difficult to locate in any condition. PSA Population Report figures confirm their scarcity, with just 28 total coasters sent to PSA over the years, with our consignor's special group featuring 13 "highest-graded-at-PSA" examples. The coasters feature the artwork of prominent Canadian cartoon artist Lou Skuce, with their numbers matching the players' uniform numbers. The condition leaders are Hall-of-Famers Hap Day and Ace Bailey at VG+ 3.5, with fellow HOFer Red Horner scoring VG 3 and making for a trio of Pop-1s with none higher. At GOOD+ 2.5 are Alex Levinsky and Harold Cotton, with the Kid Line of Charlie Conacher, Joe Primeau and Busher Jackson slabbed GOOD 2, the same as Bob Gracie and Harold Darragh. Completing at FR 1.5 are Andy Blair and Fred Robertson, along with FR 1 examples of Lorne Chabot, King Clancy, Frank Finnigan and Benny Grant. Coasters required for the set to be 100% complete, if they were actually issued, are those of coach Dick Irvin, GM Conn Smythe, Bill Thoms and Ken Doraty, with no known examples ever showing up in the hobby. Sixteen O'Keefe's coasters offered at one time can be considered yet another hobby event. Cheers to "Simgin", O'Keefe's and the '31-32 Stanley Cup-champion Leafs!
