Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2013
The first cardboard appearance by Canada’s greatest all-around athlete, Lionel Conacher, was in the Dominion Chocolate Company’s big 120-card “Dominion Athletic Stars” multi-sport set and describes the Toronto native as outstanding in rugby (football), hockey, lacrosse and baseball. He was also a champion boxer and had already led the Toronto Argonauts to a Grey Cup championship (1921) when he appeared on his rookie cards. Conacher only started playing hockey at age 16 and is said to have gravitated toward the sport because of the financial stability it offered. Offered here in EX 5 condition, this thought-provoking example of card #118 is a Pop-2 with just three having been graded higher at PSA. The company’s Population Report reveals 19 total submissions of the Conacher card with “coupon” still attached.
