Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2013
What a great find for junior hockey and local history buffs! The Owen Sound Greys were a dominant force in junior hockey during the mid-1920s. Housed in a 12" x 14" textured dark silver matte, this 7" x 9" image commemorates the Greys' double triumph in 1927, having won both the Robertson Cup as best junior team in Ontario and the Memorial Cup as national champs. The Greys had also won the Memorial Cup three years earlier with Hedley Smith in net. Although he didn't play in 1927, he still earned his second Memorial Cup as a substitute for Benny Grant. Captain Harry Lauder played all of three games with the Boston Bruins. Jack Markle went on to win the 1937 Calder Cup with the Syrcause Stars and Benny Grant played 52 NHL games spanning 14 seasons. Grant spent the bulk of his career in the minor pros, his biggest claim to NHL fame being that he split two shutouts with Lorne Chabot in the 1928-29 season.
