Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2013
This 1880s-1890s one-piece Spalding wooden stick with a rounded blade was likely used to play ice polo, an American precursor to ice hockey which peaked in the late 19th Century. The famous Spalding logo on one side of the blade is very faded but can be made out towards the heel. Measuring 40" from the tip of the blade to the top of the tapered shaft, this relic is missing two long chips on the bottom edge on one side low on the shaft and on the heel. Plenty of wear with a few more chips on the edges and at the toe. Some small white marks to note, mostly on the blade with a few on the lower shaft.
