Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2013
The NHL All-Star Game in the 21st century is largely a skills competition with little passion and no hitting, but in the 1970's fans were still treated to a real hockey game, where the stars battled and the scores were often close. This attractive lot features complete programs and ticket stubs from four such contests, as follows: 1) the 1973 game, played at Madison Square Garden in New York, a wide-open affair that saw Bobby Schmautz pot the winner late in the 3rd period of a 5-4 East Division win, 2) 1974 at old Chicago Stadium, where to the delight of the crowd Black Hawks star Stan Mikita had a goal and two assists in a 6-4 West Division victory, 3) a wild one in 1976 at Philadelphia that saw the Wales Conference build a 7-1 lead after two periods before the Campbell Conference scored four in the 3rd to make it close, including a record two in 10 seconds by Denis Ververgaert, and 4) the 1978 game at Buffalo, where the Campbell Conference, despite being outshot 40-12, somehow took a 2-2 tie into overtime before hometown hero Gil Perreault scored the winner. The program cover for this game has been autographed by Scotty Bowman, Guy Lafleur and Bryan Trottier. Average condition is EX+, while the ticket stubs are EX/NM or better.
