Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2013
The Edmonton Oilers made their NHL home debut October 13, 1979, battling the Detroit Red Wings to a 3-3 tie. This was just the second NHL game for both Wayne Gretzky and Mark Messier, who by the time their careers were finished would be the two highest scorers in League history, as they remain. Messier would record the first of his 694 regular season goals against the Red Wings' Rogie Vachon in the 3rd period to give the Oilers the tie, and their first NHL point; while Gretzky would have to wait one more game before netting his first of many to come. The offered game program is complete, in superb Near Mint condition, and includes a separate game-day press release.
