Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013

Leading their 1944 Stanley Cup Final series against the Chicago Black Hawks three games to none, but down 4-1 on home ice entering the 3rd period of Game #4, the Montreal Canadiens produced one of the most explosive finishes to a Final ever seen, scoring three goals to tie the game and then winning it nine minutes into overtime to capture the team's fifth Cup championship, their first since 1931. They were led by the "Punch Line" of Elmer Lach, Toe Blake; who potted the OT winner, and young Maurice Richard, making his first appearance in the Finals, who scored twice in that frenzied 3rd period, including the game tying goal. That deciding game, played April 13th, 1944 at the Montreal Forum, was also memorable for featuring the first penalty shot awarded in a Final series, in the overtime no less, given to Chicago and stopped by Bill Durnan, the Canadiens' Vezina winning rookie goalie. The offered program from that eventful game is complete and in very nice EX condition.
